Bella B.
"My hearing aids are good," says Bella B., age 6. Bella’s assessment of her new Conversa.NT™ Moda™ hearing aids is monumental, according to her mother, Holly, considering Bella hated her previous hearing aids and never wanted to wear them. Bella was first fit with binaural hearing aids when she was just eight weeks old. Her early experiences with hearing aids were, as Holly explains, “rocky and inconsistent.” Being very sensitive to things touching her skin, Bella was bothered by the feeling of earmolds in her ears. She would pull them out, complain that they hurt, and hide them so she would not have to wear them. When she began to talk, Bella would tell her mother that they bugged her ears and she did not want to wear them anymore. |

After several visits to different audiologists, and new hearing aids, Bella’s experiences gradually improved. The most dramatic improvement occurred when she was fit with Conversa.NT™ Moda™ open fit hearing instruments.
Bella adapted to her Conversa.NT Moda hearing instruments very quickly. Best of all, Bella finds them so comfortable and discreet that she forgets she is wearing them. She wears the hearing aids more and benefits from them throughout the day.
“I’m amazed that she forgets she is wearing them because she is so sensitive to having anything touch her skin,” Holly explains.
The hearing aids have almost gone in the bath water because Bella forgets she has them in. When Holly asks Bella if she is wearing her hearing aids, Bella often has to touch her ears to check.
| Since wearing her Conversa.NT Moda hearing aids, Bella is happier and hearing consonants and speech easier, especially in noisy environments. Since she is not misunderstanding or missing parts of conversations, she understands others and her school lessons more easily. Holly notices that her academic performance in school is steadily improving. She used to feel frustrated when other children could not understand her speech. Now her listening skills, speech and vocabulary have all improved “by leaps and bounds” and she is “right on track with the other children in her class.” |

According to Holly, the Conversa.NT Moda hearing aids allow Bella to take ownership, and feel more in control of her hearing loss. Instead of having to rely on her parents to insert her earmolds, Bella can put on and take off her Conversa.NT Moda hearing instruments by herself. She puts them over her ear and slips in the slim tubes without any difficulty.
Bella’s moderate sensorineural ‘cookie-bite’ hearing loss bilaterally, with a mild loss at 250 Hz and near normal hearing at 6000 and 8000 Hz. |

Recently, at a family reunion when no one asked about her hearing aids, Bella was the one who initiated the conversation about them, showing them to her relatives. As Holly explains, the hearing aids allow her to be charge of the conversation, and discuss her hearing aids when she feels ready to talk about them. Since the family lives near a canyon, Bella used to be bothered by the powerful wind being amplified over her hearing aid microphones when playing outdoors. She had to remove her previous hearing aids because of this discomfort. However, with her Conversa.NT Moda hearing aids, Bella leaves them in and never complains about the wind. |
Holly recommends the Conversa.NT Moda hearing instruments to other parents who have children with hearing loss: "Both of my daughters have hearing losses and wear Conversa.NT hearing aids. The noise cancelling features allow Bella and Sabrina to hear speech better in noisy environments. They are also very comfortable, especially the open fit, which means Bella is wearing them more consistently and experiencing their benefits. I would recommend the Conversa.NT Moda because they allow children, like Bella, to be more independent and feel more in control of their hearing loss and in everyday social situations." |

As for Bella, she is happy to be able to hear her friends and her teacher at school, and play in the snow. "I like school," Bella says. "My hearing aids help me hear at school."
