Elena began to notice she had a hearing problem as an elementary school teacher in 1994. She had difficulty hearing her students and listening to conversations, especially when there was background noise.
She lived with her hearing loss, and developed coping mechanisms over the years. When socializing in groups and at parties, she would pretend to be engrossed in another conversation when she could not hear a person speaking to her, or act as though she was hearing what was being said, when in reality, she was missing parts of the conversation.

Elena decided to have her hearing tested to confirm that she had a hearing loss. She was fit with Conversa.NT™ half shell hearing instruments and began to notice improvements in her ability to hear conversations and environmental sounds.

“I used to assume that my son mumbled and now I realize it was me who was not hearing him,” she explains.
Elena finds listening on the telephone easier. Before she would have to play back voicemail messages two or three times to understand them. Now she plays them back once and captures all of the details. She can also hear when someone knocks on her front door.

Elena is more alert when driving. She can hear her car signal light and is more aware of traffic sounds. She used be afraid that she would miss sounds she was supposed to hear like sirens and car horns, so she would never play the radio. When wearing her Conversa.NT hearing instruments, she enjoys listening to the car radio and feels more relaxed.
“I wish I would have worn these Conversa.NT hearing aids back when I was teaching,” Elena explains. “It would have been less frustrating for my students and myself. It’s nice to be able to hear others.”
