Your Child's Hearing Aids

Earmolds

Earmolds are used with BTEs and are the part of the hearing aids that fit inside your child’s ear. They should be cleaned at least once a week: right before your child goes to bed is a good time so they can dry overnight.

Unhook the earmold tubes from the hearing aids.

Wash the earmolds in warm, soapy water.

Blow water out of the tubes.

Let the earmolds dry overnight and put them back on the hearing aids in the morning.

If the hearing aids don’t sound right, check for moisture.

Periodically, earmolds may need to be replaced. When your child begins to outgrow his/her earmolds, they will not fit snugly in the ear, which may cause the hearing aids to whistle at the usual volume. In addition, earmolds may need replacing if they become hard and the tubes don’t bend properly. If you suspect the earmolds need to be replaced, check with your child’s hearing healthcare professional.
